COVID-19 Week 11 - COVID-19 Testing: Important information for our community

Testing is an important part of the strategy to detect any community cases of COVID-19 and part of our whole-of-community approach to combating the pandemic.

If you are in Auckland and have any cold or flu-like symptoms, you should get a COVID-19 test:

  1. Call your family doctor FIRST to get a COVID-19 test. It is completely FREE if you say you’re just needing a test. If your family doctor is busy, they will recommend another family doctor that can test you.
  2. You can also visit a designated GP clinic to get tested. You don’t need to be enrolled to get tested at these clinics.
  3. Another option is to visit an Urgent Care Clinic - some of these are opened 24 hours, 7 days a week.
  4. Your final option is to visit a Community testing centre

You can find the list of Designated GP clinic, Urgent Care Clinic and Community testing centre from here:

Should I get tested?
If you have any of the symptoms of COVID-19, phone Healthline on 0800 358 5453 or your local GP to see if you need to be tested or not. The symptoms of COVID-19 include cough, loss of smell, sore throat, fever, runny nose and shortness of breath.

If you are offered a test for COVID-19, please take it. It will help keep your friends, family and whânau safe. In addition, if the Auckland Regional Public Health Service advises you to be tested you should follow their advice.

The testing of people who have recently returned to New Zealand and are in managed isolation and quarantine facilities is managed separately.
