Born in South Africa to Congolese parents, Vira immigrated to Aotearoa with her family as a young child.
She is currently studying a social sciences degree at the University of Auckland.
Vira is a Youth Consumer Advisor at Whāraurau based in Tāmaki Makaurau. Vira is motivated by the prospect of producing equitable outcomes to improve the social educational and economic wellbeing of young people in Aotearoa, especially those from refugee backgrounds.
Also currently working on refugee youth mental health project funded by Amnesty International,Vira is also an award-winning poet, playwright, writer, community activist and former Chairperson of the New Zealand National Refugee Council.
