I’m a 4th generation NZ Chinese with ancestors who settled in Ashburton in the 1920s, now recognised as the Ng King Brothers Chinese Market Garden Settlement, the 8th NZ heritage site. Although I moved to Auckland in 2016, I still consider Christchurch my home.
Growing up as a bi-cultural 90s kid, I often felt torn between looking Chinese and embodying a “Kiwi” identity. This struggle, compounded by neglect of mental and emotional health and cultural pressures, led to burnout and a realisation of generational trauma.
Determined to break the cycle, I embraced my Chinese and Kiwi heritage, integrating Eastern and Western philosophies for a balanced life. My passion for mental health and community support has driven me to volunteer with Youthline, The Heart Foundation, The Salvation Army, Future Dragonz, and the New Zealand Chinese Association.
These experiences have led me to my current role managing national key accounts for an occupational health and training company. Giving back to the community enriches my life, and I remain dedicated to lifelong learning and personal growth.
