Darryn Ooi

Ethnic Advisory Group Member

Brief Description: My ancestors hail from Guangdong and Fujian. They migrated to Malaysia, and my parents moved to Aotearoa in the late 1980s. I was born and raised in Tāmaki Makaurau. I am a student of Te Reo Māori and am legally trained, having worked as a Judges' Clerk in Te Kōti Mātua o Aotearoa | The High Court of New Zealand. I am a member of the Asian Legal Network and Asians Supporting Tino Rangatiratanga. My interests lie in the direct relationships between tangata whenua and tauiwi Āhia and the implications for decolonisation and constitutional transformation. I run workshops about Te Tiriti o Waitangi and am a PhD student at Waikato University.
