Mentally Healthy Work: Migrant Insights of Workers in the Retail Sector was commissioned by WorkSafe Mahi Haumaru Aoteaora and conducted by Asian Family Services in June 2023.

WorkSafe is New Zealand's primary workplace health and safety regulator, operating independently as a Crown agency. Its core mission is to ensure the safety and well-being of all employees in their workplaces.

 

The report aims to provide insights on the mental health of migrant workers in the retail industry, particularly concerning mental health and wellbeing. The report uses a thematic analysis approach to examine focus group discussions and identifies key themes related to the structural layout of work, social factors in the workplace, and the work environment.

The report highlights the unique challenges faced by Asian migrants in the retail sector and provides valuable insights and recommendations that can foster a safer and more supportive work environment for this demographic.
